Weekend and Holiday Getaway: Driving map to the park:
Friday: October 5th It had been a long time since we had gone to Ray Roberts State Park - Johnson Branch. The park is on the North side of the Ray Roberts lake. During the day Friday while Cindy was at school, I got the Coach and the car ready to go. The contractor finished up the roofing and guttering project. I paid Robert, the contractor, and took the roofing invoice to the State Farm office in order to get the rest of our claim money. As soon as Cindy got home we were ready to go. We left home around 4:30. We knew the traffic would be heavy getting to the North side of Fort Worth and it was. There was a wreak at 820 and Ruff Snow...traffic was really bad...but we got through it. When we got to the park there were only about 10 of 90 camp sites left...we choose site number 6. It was a level pull through...no shade but a pretty nice site. For future trips site number 11 is on the lake but no shade. Number 12, 13, 14, 15 are on the lake and shady. We rolled out the awning and hung the lights...raised the flag and walked the dogs and ate supper by dark. Here is Mocha standing guard and Joe is watching. Mocha doesn't let a thing get past her...she is our guard dog...being short, she looks under the Coach and watches for activity on the other side. Joe on the other hand is content to watch strangers go by and only pays attention when Mocha gets excited or barks...what a pair.
Here is another picture of our camp setup.
Saturday: October 6th Saturday morning it started raining just about the time we were headed out to fish. We thought the rain wouldn't last long we watched TV and ate lunch...it was still raining. We decided to go the Windstar Casino...the Casino is about 28 miles from the park. We left around 2:00 and stopped in Gainsville to get some fried pies at the bakery but it was closed. We headed on to the Casino and got there around 3:00. Needless to say we didn't have much luck and returned to the park and got back to camp around 6:00. While Cindy got the steak ready...I fired up the little gas grill. It was a beautiful night so we had dinner on the picnic table...very nice dinner. Here is a picture from the table. I think that is the edge of the grill at the bottom of the picture.
Sunday: October 7th It was a beautiful day...after breakfast we went fishing down the shore from the boat launch. We fished until around 1:00. Cindy caught a small bass. We threw it back. We were getting hungry and warm so we headed back to camp. Here is a picture out the door.
Around 6:00 we walked down to the lake and fished until dark. No luck fishing but a nice sun set.
Monday: October 8th We ate breakfast and packed up. We got home around 11:30. A very nice weekend and holiday
